Déjà vu from French, is the phenomenon of having the strong sensation that an event or experience currently being experienced has been experienced in the past. Which is what I felt when we played our 4th competition match against CC Kikkers.
Winning 3 games in a row and specially the last thriller of an event, gave us the boost we needed for our next game. Considering the Dutch weather we normally experience, 24th May was a bliss. Hot and bright sunny day. We reached our host cricket ground (even before the host team was there) only to find out grass was as high as elephants eye. It was going to be a low scoring game but we did not expect it to be what we managed to achieve. Zeddy ( Captain ) lost the toss and opposition sent us to bat first. I think they had our last game in mind.
Zeddy and Zishan opened the batting for VVV and within no time, one of them was sitting with the team again enjoying coffee. Zeddy got caught behind at slip on a wider delivery. Zishan tried to stay and build up an innings with Saqib Chaudry, "ahem" correction with Usman , sorry I need to correct myself again , It was Noman, but he too fell prey to the Kikkers bowling attack.
We were already 4 wickets down ( Lets just skip the total score here ) before our last hope Abid joined Noman.
"Give us some score to defend" (The One)* says. It was the same situation as the last game. Top order could not score and middle order had to bring back the team on track. Noman and Abid added 28 runs with a huge 6 by Abid. It took 10 mins for the opposition to find the ball that was hit for the 6. Abid lost his wicket after scoring quick 23. We were hoping for a 50+ score by Abid considering his history hitting the ball on that ground but sadly that wish did not come true.
Noman kept his head cool and like always changed his bat after playing for 5 overs. The result , he and Saqib Iqbal added 56 runs. Saqib Iqbal played a really mature innings. He was the highest scoring player of the match (34 runs with 2x6 2x4).
VVV 2 were all out for 128 in 36th over.
Saqib Iqbal 34
Noman Mirajdin 31
Abid Malik 23
After lunch when we were in the field again to attack with bowling, bowlers were already in pressure to take early wickets. And so we had our second Deja Vu experience. Omar* (The One) got his first prey on his very fist ball of the match. A caught behind by Noman Mirajdin and very next ball a run out. We could not have asked for a better start.
We needed 8 more wickets before Kikkers reach that "low" target. Sunny ( overseas player for 3 years now ) was brought into attack. Within a few overs he trapped two batsmen on back foot for LBW with a hattrick chance. What a turn around it was. Just over 30 runs our opposition were 4 wickets down. Sunny bowled exceptionally well by giving just 11 runs for 3 wickets in his 8 overs spell.
Tokier Aka Gellny was brought into attack and in his third over got another LBW victim. Compared to our batting, our bowling was excellent. We were getting wickets at regular intervals and before we knew it Kikkers were all out for 86 in 27th over. Omar and Saqib Iqbal finished off the last 4 wickets.
Omar 3 - 32 in 8 overs
Sunny 3 - 11 in 8 overs
S. Iqbal 2 - 6 in 2 overs.
